Maxines
latest theatrical venture is a fast-paced variety spectacular.
Mackies Com-Varie-ality pays tribute to old style
variety shows with a very current twist.
Joining
Maxine and her seven piece Louie Prima style band, are
some of the best performers in Los Angeles as her regulars,
and high profile guest stars from comedy and the music
scene.
Material
spans topics including: the sorry state of television ("That's
The Reality"), wholesome bandleader, octogenarian and TV
star extraordinaire Lawrence Welk putting the moves on Maxine's
mother, (true story); and current object of Maxine's smoldering
affection -- Secretary of State, Condi Rice. The show will
resume performances in Los Angeles in the fall of 2007.

Maxine
is preparing the launch of Mackie's Guest House, a completely
original radio Variety Show, broadcast live from her guest
house in the Hollywood Hills. Mackies Guest House
is a fresh and fabulous hour of live musical numbers, comedy
sketches by well-known regulars, and one-on-one interviews
with show-biz luminaries. Musical director Michael Orland
(from American Idol) leads the band. Initial guests
include Bea Arthur, Phyllis Diller, and Jane
Lynch. In todays media glut of depressing news loops
and droning talk, Mackies Guest House is an hour
of pure uplifting entertainment.

Maxines
previous stage show, SITUATION TRAGEDY: Observations on 10
years in Hollywood... with Bongos, a jaundiced look at the
ins and outs of working in television, wowed critics and audiences
alike. It ran to sold-out houses at the Globe Playhouse
in Hollywood, won 14 Dramalogue Awards, and was nominated
for the coveted Ovation Award (The LA "Obie")
for Best New Musical.

"Successful
TV sitcom writer and producer Maxine Lapiduss gushes with
signature sarcasm in her musical comedy revue... Poignant...
Engagingly droll.. Deft... Satiric."
- Los Angeles Times |
"Hilarious...
Rip-Roaring... Maxine Lapiduss (consulting producer on Ellen)
romps through a fast-paced 75 minutes... Lapiduss bombards
the audience with sight and sound as she casts a jaundiced
eye on her career in Hollywood... High caliber talent... Deserves
high marks."
- Daily Variety |
"Smart
sophisticated writing... Lapiduss' wit is riotous."
- LA Weekly (recommended) |
"One
of the world's cleverest women is Maxine Lapiduss."
- Liz Smith, New York Post |
"As
you might deduce from its pedigree, Mackie's Com-Varie-Ality
Show! is a first-rate production. ...carried by the star's
exuberant presence and the deftness with which she swings
between zingy repartee and musical numbers. Her talents as
both a storyteller and comic are showcased in monologues about
everything from Lawrence Welk's geriatric pass at her mother
to the dubious nature of Los Angeles news programs.
